While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
You must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be in reasonable physical health. You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of our PADI Instructor. We will provide all the basic scuba gear you’ll use including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, dive gauges and a tank.

Hundreds of our guests have learned to scuba dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through this course.
To start in a PADI Open Water Diver course, you must be 12 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required. Maximum of only 3 or 4 students per course.
You will complete the academics in the morning session with our Instructor. Or PADI's Online Training program is designed so that you can learn the academics at your own pace when it is convenient for you before you arrive. (Fully flexible training - Starts Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and by appointment)
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank.
In the afternoon, when you're fitted with your scuba equipment we can begin your pool training. Your instructor will put into practice the techniques you learned in the academics program. Your training dives will be logged and approved by your instructor before you move on to open water.
Get ready to experience everything you've learned with the freedom of open water during your 2 Day GBR tour. As soon as your open water training dives are approved by your instructor you will be a certified diver. PADI Open Water Diver certification is recognized worldwide so your diving experiences will be limitless.

This course is available on all trips to the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea. As an Open Water certified scuba diver you’ve already experienced the thrill of exploring parts of the underwater world, but know there’s more to discover. Whether you’re looking for new dive adventures, to improve your scuba skills, or both at once, taking PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course will help you gain more confidence and meet more dive buddies.
In the course, there’s a long list of scuba specialty dives to try. On Rum Runner we prefer Fish identification, boat diving, underwater naturalist, night diving, deep diver and underwater navigator for you to choose from. You do five different dives all under the expert guidance of our PADI Instructor. No formal classroom session, just a lot of diving. You can start learning online before you arrive with PADI eLearning , or we can do everything during your trip.
Course Cost $220.00 per person plus Tour Cost (less $100 if you complete PADI’s eLearning)

We make no apologies for what Rum Runner is… a 20m Motor Sailing Schooner, built in 1984, and with a nearly indestructible fiberglass hull. The vessel will accommodate up to 16 guests in multi share twin single bunk areas, semi-private twin single bunk cabins, and a 4-share single bunk cabin. She is the equivalent of a mutli share hostel, just on water.

You get to spend over 24 hours at the Great Barrier Reef! That's 2 full days and 1 night aboard Rum Runner, Returns Cairns next day approximately 3.00pm
Diving in this section of the Coral Sea is a great experience for both new and experienced adventurous divers. This trip visits Holmes Reef, a reef system lying some 90 miles outside the Great Barrier Reef. Due to its isolation the reef has incredible visibility abundant sharks and large pelagic fish life.
